A few favourites

One of our great friends is a complete blues and smooth-jazz fan, so I started a series of paintings of some of his favourite guitarists. So far I completed 6, but will hopefully soon start adding a lot more to his studio wall.
Robert Johnson - Jimi Hendrix - Eric Clapton - Jeff Healy - Stevie Ray Vaughn - Gary Moore

Pink in progress 2

I managed to work a tiny little bit on Mr Pink here, but alas, it's not done. I'm getting ready for an upcoming art competition and instead of spending my time painting portraits, sketching or taking photographs, I'm spending it more wisely on TV, music and playing with the dog. I know how important it is to meditate on ones' concept and to rethink and perfect processes and I also fully understand the value of creating a suitable working environment in order to maintain clear focus... so, I have decided to leave the dishes unwashed and put all my clothing (clean&dirty) in one big pile so that nothing (except my dog and occasionally my husband) can distract me from my goal. I'm not sure that I can get out of work tomorrow, but I'll be sure to continue my research when I get home.... at 10pm.

Oh, and I've (perhaps regretfully) decided to let go of the blue.

Quick painting

My Thursday evening class was quiet enough this week for me to sit down and do a quick oil painting (26cm x 17.5cm). I've been working more on darker skin tones and although there are a few things in this portrait that I'm not quite happy with, I'm noticing that the basic palette definitely lends itself to darker toned skin renderings in small quick sketches.

We'll see how the pink portrait progresses :)

Pink in progress 1

Started my 17th (..or is it 18th?) soon-to-end-up-unfinished-in-a-corner piece today with the hopes of showing the process as I go. However, seeing as I thought of it too late and already missed the first few steps, I'll simply put the photos up as I go along and hopefully finish it in this century.....

My reference shows another figure on the left, who I was going to paint slightly out of focus, but I'm really enjoying the blue. I think it should stay.

First!

A brand new blog where we're gonna pop all our painted creations....
